Gokova Bay

Gökova Bay is a truly magical place, named after the incredible way the sea and sky merge on the horizon to form an endless blue deep. The name of the bay translates from Turkish as ‘Heavenly Valley’, and it’s easy to see why! Gökova Bay is the largest and most magnificent bay in the Aegean Sea of Turkey. It is a protected natural wonder, teeming with marine life and breathtaking vistas. On the left, the modern town of Datça (Ancient Knid) nestles against its shores, while on the right, the vibrant town of Bodrum (Ancient Halicarnassus) lies just beyond. The Gulf of Gökova is a frequent muse for many Turkish authors, who have immortalised its beauty in their literary works.

Gökova Bay is world-renowned for its plethora of uninhabited islands, each a tiny paradise in itself. There are dozens of these little gems scattered around the bay, including Cleopatra Island, Fenerli, Injekum Bay and the Blue Lagoon, which can be visited on exciting excursions. Every day, dozens of pleasure boats depart from the vibrant village of Akyaka to these stunning locations.
