Pamukkale Tour from Kemer | Cotton Castle & Hierapolis
There are places in the world that photographs cannot prepare you for. Pamukkale is one of them. The moment you step onto the white terraces and feel the warm thermal water flowing over your feet, with the Aegean plain stretching out below you and the ruins of an ancient Roman city behind you, you understand why this place has drawn travellers for two thousand years. The Pamukkale tour from Kemer is a long day — but it is the kind of long day you remember for the rest of your life.
Calendar & Price
The Cotton Castle
The name Pamukkale means Cotton Castle in Turkish, and standing before it for the first time you understand exactly why. Millennia of calcium-rich thermal water cascading down the hillside have created a landscape of brilliant white terraces, shallow pools and frozen waterfalls that looks entirely unlike anything else on earth. The site is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and entry to the terraces is on foot and barefoot — you remove your shoes at the base and walk up through the warm flowing water. It is one of the most unusual and quietly magical experiences Turkey has to offer.
Hierapolis — The Ancient City Above the Clouds
Perched at the top of the travertine terraces, the ancient Roman city of Hierapolis has been drawing visitors since the second century BC. Founded as a thermal spa city, it grew into one of the most important cities of the ancient world. Today you can walk through the remarkable necropolis — one of the largest ancient burial grounds in Anatolia — explore the monumental theatre which seats twelve thousand people and still stands in extraordinary condition, and wander the colonnaded main street between columns that have stood for two millennia. Your guide will bring the history of the city to life as you explore.
The Journey
Pamukkale is around three hours from Kemer by comfortable air-conditioned coach — a long drive, but the landscape changes dramatically as you head inland through the Taurus Mountains and into the broad Denizli plain. An open buffet lunch is included, giving you time to rest and refuel between the two main sites. The tour departs early in the morning and returns to Kemer in the evening — a full fourteen hours, but every one of them worthwhile.

5Pamukkale was genuinely one of the most extraordinary places I have ever visited. Walking barefoot through the warm thermal water on those brilliant white terraces with the plain stretching out below — there are no words that really do it justice. The ancient theatre at Hierapolis is remarkably well preserved. A very long day but absolutely worth every hour of it.

5En fantastisk dag!

5I had seen photographs of Pamukkale for years but nothing prepared me for the reality. Standing barefoot on those white terraces with warm water flowing over your feet and an ancient Roman city behind you — it is simply one of the most remarkable places on earth. The guide was excellent at orientating us and making the most of our three hours. Wonderful day.

5Simply one of the great natural wonders of the world. The white terraces are even more beautiful in person than in any photograph. Our guide was brilliant — he showed us the theatre, the terraces, the changing rooms for the pool and gave us a clear map of the site. Three hours was enough to see everything comfortably. The buffet lunch afterwards was very good.

3Pamukkale itself was impressive but I have to be honest — the day is extremely tiring. We left Kemer very early and didn’t get back until late evening. The bus journey is around three hours each way. The site is genuinely beautiful and the guide was helpful but three hours felt slightly rushed to see the terraces, the theatre and the pool. Worth doing but be prepared for a very long day.
Markus Weber
4Lohnenswerter Ausflug!

5Pamukkale is one of those places that genuinely lives up to its reputation — and then some. The combination of the natural wonder of the travertines, the scale of the Hierapolis ruins and the extraordinary experience of Cleopatra’s Pool all in three hours is remarkable. Our guide was knowledgeable and well organised. A long day from Kemer but one I would happily do again.
